Day 0, Transplant Day

Today has been anticipated for some time, it has been a difficult day. Lee received Cynthia's stem cells. As usual, he was a trooper and endured it well.

The transplant day begins with pretransplant medications to help reduce any reactions. Then they brought the frozen cells. The cells are thawed and transferred into a large syringe which was then connected to Lee's IV and then slowly pushed into the line. The cells are thawed only when the nurse gives the signal and is ready for the next syringe. It is impressive at how many times they double check the product and I.D. , it at least 6 times.

Lee has been sleeping most of the afternoon. They kept him in the hospital to observe him and continue fluids. Hopefully tomorrow there will be improvement. When he can eat and drink enough, they will let him be an outpatient.

Now we deal with chemo side effects and watch for graft versus host disease. We will be here for many days to come. Remember the sweaters? The first one is nearly done! Then I'll read a book and then another sweater!

Thanks friends, for all your prayers and e-mails, they are great spirit boosters.
